Stories of Our Lives

Created by the members of a Nairobi-based arts collective, these five beautifully filmed vignettes dramatizing true-life stories from Kenya’s LGBTQI community are both a labor of love and a bold act of militancy. Stories of Our Lives began as an archive of powerful testimonials about everyday courage in a deeply conservative society where non-heterosexual identities are pervasively stigmatized and criminalized. Working on a shoestring budget and relentless enthusiasm, the cast and crew shot, edited, and mixed five shorts over eight months to create this remarkable anthology film about queer experiences in Kenya. Winner of a Teddy Award for Best LGBT Documentary at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival.
